Culture Candy's latest confection Sweet Tooth is a free art criticism publication
that is produced quarterly as a double-sided broadsheet. Each issue of Sweet Tooth
will be designed by a local, professional artist. The result is not only a forum for writers
but also a work of art in and of itself. In each poster-sized issue six writers take on the
task of evaluating the pros and cons of art in Baton Rouge. Editorials and essays critique
local culture across disciplines and perspectives. Also, to continue the discussion, each article
has an online forum that readers can access on this page.

THE TEETHING RING

Steve Babcock (writer)

Steve Babcock is a teacher and writer. His poetry has appeared in wide variety of publications. He is currently a senior editor and columnist for The Bear Deluxe Magazine.

Dave Carner (writer)

Originally from Mississippi, Dave has lived in Baton Rouge for the last two and a half years. By day he wrestles bits as a web application developer. In his free time he takes pictures of power lines.

Alex V. Cook (art advisor)

Alex V. Cook is an author and music critic living in Baton Rouge. His work has appeared in The Oxford American, The Wire, and he is the music editor for outsideleft.com. His first book Darkness, Racket and Twang is a gripping read, and he can eat more hot dogs than you can.

Paul Dean (writer, designer)

Paul Dean teaches color theory, typography, graphic design and graphic design history at the Louisiana State University School of Art. Paul recently wrote about the colors and history of Burma for the color and design blog COLOURlovers.com, and he maintains a blog of his own at www.djmisc.com.

Mallory Feltz (writer)

He has provided articles and cover artwork for the local arts/entertainment magazine 225. He is currently producing/co-producing 2 music projects and is in pre-production for several music videos due for release in Spring 2008. King’s photography observes the effects of man-made objects on their surroundings, and his musical explorations combine conceptual experimentations with pop sensibility.

William G. Osborne III (writer)

William G. Osborne III creates art & composes music, manages projects, teaches, and plays with language. His name in Indian Guides was “Picture Maker.” He moved to the South over half of a lifetime ago, and is still adjusting to the climate. Married with pets. BA, Millsaps. MFA, MA., LSU.

Erin Rolfs (managing editor)

Erin Rolfs is a proud mother, a talkative drunk and hopes to be a writer some day. Always one for a stimulating conversation she asked these fine writers (see above) to break the ice between and among the artist and public communities. She feels overwhelmingly fortunate to be witness to a period of substantial growth in Baton Rouge's artistic maturity. With that great privilege there are responsibilities to help nurture that growth in a positive way. Between that realization, being a mother, a lover of Belgian beer and aspirations of publishing this idea of Sweet Tooth was born.
